Zac Efron Would Be Honored To Play Matthew Perry In Biopic

After Matthew Perry’s death on 29th October, Zac Efron recalled his time with the actor on the set of their 2009 fantasy comedy17 Again. Playing the role of Perry’s younger self, Efron mentioned having a great time with the late legend. Having developed an unbreakable bond, Perry even decided to choose Efron to play his role in his biopic.

Years later, after Matthew Perry’s untimely demise,Zac Efronfinally addressed the late actor’s wish during his appearance on a red carpet interview on November 8. Speaking withEntertainment Tonight, Efron mentioned that he would be honored to play Perry’s role in his biopic.

“It’s a huge honor, to think he was thinking of me for that role, I mean I would be honored to do it, to be honest.”

As mentioned in his mémoireFriends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, Matthew Perry sought Zac Efron to play his younger self, after working together in17 Again.Apparently, the late actor had personally offered Efron the role in his biopic. But surprisingly, back then, theHigh School Musicalstar had blatantly rejected the offer.

Zac Efron Had Previously Rejected Matthew Perry’s Offer

Appearing for an interview withSiriusXMin 2022, Matthew Perry revealed how he had asked Zac Efron to play the lead role in a film that he had written and planned to direct. However, Efron had denied the opportunity when Perry was still alive. Later on, after his death, Perry’s friend Athenna Crosby, toldPeoplethat the late actor’s movie was a biopic where he wanted to cast Efron.

“[Perry] wanted to make a movie about his life and have a biopic made. He wanted Zac Efron, who’s played him already to play him again because he said he did such a good job.”

But according toMatthew Perry, Zac Efron had rejected his offer, back then. So it seems, somehow after Perry’s death, Efron changed his mind and decided to honor the actor by fulfilling his wish. According toPeople, the actor even spoke a few words about Perry.

“[Perry] was a mentor to me, and we made a really cool film together. I looked up to him, I learned comedic timing from that guy. I mean, when we were filming 17 Again, it was so surreal for me to look across and have him be there, because I’ve learned so much from him, from his whole life.”

Matthew Perry undeniably left a mark in this world with his work and sheer personality. The actor shall always be loved and appreciated by fans, all around the world.
