Michael Fassbender Didn’t Blink on Camera for the Entire Shoot ofThe Killer!
Having to portray a psychopathic serial killer in theDavid Fincherdictatorial,Michael Fassbendertook his role very seriously. Although it is true that roles like these are particularly challenging to bring to life on camera, it is also true that Fassbender is an exceptional actor. Even then he chose to go that extra mile to fully embody the character.
And thus, in abehind-the-scenes video, the actor revealed his secrets to portraying the character convincingly. The actor was inspired by Michael Caine’s advice. He revealed,

“One thing that stuck in my mind was, ‘Don’t blink. You must never blink,’–For the next eight years, I walked around trying not to blink. People around me, my mother and everybody, thought I had gone nuts. They thought I was a psychopath. I used to frighten the life out of people.”
He continued,

“If you don’t blink, you know you can keep the audience mesmerized. It’s not so much not blinking, it’s just being still. Stillness has an economy and a power about it.”
Michael Caine also attributed the advice to the bookTeach Yourself Acting, which emphasizes the importance of keeping the actor’s eyes open at all times in front of the camera.

David Fincher Cannot Stop Praising Michael Fassbender!
The project’s director, David Fincher, can’t help but express his admiration for the actor. Speaking toEmpire Magazine, he shared his enthusiasm for being able to work with the actor, stating,
“Michael’s eyes betray a lot. He can hold a lot of conflicting things in his mind and his eyes allow you access to it.–I thought the character’s nihilism was interesting because it was tied to his self-loathing. Then I started thinking about this inner monologue. He has this whole thing he tells himself, which is a way of demeaning his prey so he can feel better about ostensibly being a serial killer for hire. I thought that could be interesting to navigate.”

Speaking about his own experience, Fassbender also shared his excitement to work on the project, he revealed,
“This is the type of film I was salivating to do,–There’s suspense and intrigue. A slow drip. I love that kind of movie. There’s just trying to understand the mind of a sociopath,–I try and put together a lifespan, to where the character is now.”
Fans also eagerly waiting to see what this movie has in store for them and are excited to witness Fassbender in this particular role.
The Killerwill be streaming on Netflix from the 10th of November.
