Johnny Depp Felt Abandoned By Cinema
It has been a long time sinceJohnny Depphad to step away from some of his most iconic roles. Whether it was Captain Jack Sparrow of thePirates of the Caribbeanor Gellert Grindelwald ofThe Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The movies which he loved so dearly were snatched away from him almost overnight.
“Did I feel boycotted by Hollywood?… When you’re asked to resign from a film you’re doing because of something that is merely a function of vowels and consonants floating in the air, yes you feel boycotted.”

When he was asked about how it was for him to be replaced by Mads Mikkelsen as the villain of Eddie Redmayne’s franchise. It was already a very difficult question for him and he was more so surprised by the fact that a question that had the answer already had an answer flying about. He admitted that it was no doubt difficult for him to deal with the fact that Hollywood will slowly be dropping him one after another.

Johnny Depp Doesn’t Think About Hollywood
Johnny Depp also confirmed that while he did feel boycotted by how he could no longer act in movies that he had filmed with so much care, he was not one to feel boycotted by Hollywood. He conformed to the idea that the very foundation of Hollywood carries the fact that everyone is someone outside of them.
“I don’t feel boycotted by Hollywood, because I don’t think about Hollywood. It’s a strange, funny time where everybody would love to be able to be themselves, but they can’t. They must fall in line with the person in front of them. If you want to live that life, I wish you the best.”

The world has seen a lot of, if not the entire life of the actor being displayed, analyzed, and talked about relentlessly. So it would make sense why his transparency was one that could go hand in hand with cinema standing against him.
Jeanne Du Barrypremiered during the Cannes Film Festival on 16th May 2023.
