The DCU is looking for its new Superman, and the co-CEOs have reportedly shortlisted their top contenders, which is allegedly led by David Corenswet. After taking over as the co-CEO of DC Studios with Peter Safran last year, James Gunn announced his plans to reboot the DC Universe. While he shared that some of the characters from Zack Snyder’s DCEU would continue to feature in the upcoming projects, others will have to say goodbye for good. One of these characters also included the fan-favorite Superman, portrayed by Henry Cavill.

He was last seen in Dwayne Johnson’s 2022 filmBlack Adam,leading fans to hope that he could make his return under Gunn’s DCU. However, the director had different plans. Who is David Corenswet- The Potential Frontrunner to be the Next Superman
AlthoughDavid Corenswetis not a household name, the actor is known for starring in several Television series and a number of movies as well. He was recently seen alongside Mia Goth in the 2022 horror slasher filmPearl. After featuring in a number of short films and TV series, he made his big-screen debut with the 2018 filmAffairs of Statealongside Mimi Rogers.
He has also been featured in several Netflix projects. He appeared in one of the episodes of the popular Netflix seriesHouse of Cards.Corenswet has worked with theAmerican Horror Storyco-creator Ryan Murphy on Netflix shows, includingThe PoliticianandHollywood. He also served as an executive producer for the latter.

Corenswet also starred alongside theRiverdalestar Lili Reinhart in the 2022 Netflix film,Look Both Ways, in which he portrays the love interest of Reinhart’s character. James Gunn Reportedly Preparing For Screen Tests
According to The Hollywood Reporter, DC Studios is all set to look for its new Superman and is expected to soon advance to screentests, which can take place after Memorial Day or early June. Sources also revealed that David Corenswet is among the top contenders in the race to be the next Superman.
Apart from Corenswet, Jacob Elordi, Tom Brittney, and Andrew Richardson are also on the list for the role of Clark Kent, aka Superman. Emma Mackey, Rachel Brosnahan, Phoebe Dynevor, and Samara Weaving are among the actresses shortlisted for the role of Lois Lane inSuperman: Legacy.

Reports also suggested that Brosnahan gave an amazing audition. However, her age is a conflicting factor as the director is looking for a younger actress for the role of Lois Lane. TheX-Menactor Nicholas Hoult is allegedly being looked on the be the evil genius Lex Luthor.
James Gunn has shared on Twitter that the casting process is“hard,”and the studio has some great choices. He also shared that he is looking for someone who has Superman’s“humanity,”“kindness,”and “compassion.”
Superman: Legacyis set to release on 20 August 2025.
