Steve Rogers is a fictional character prominently appearing in theMarvel Cinematic Universe. In the MCU, Rogers is a central figure who has appeared in the animated series What if… ?. The story of Steve Rogers is undoubtedly integral to the MCU and Marvel Comics, where he’s commonly known as Captain America. Rogers is a World War II super-soldier in the franchise, and the battles he fought inspired many heroes who came after him. In the modern world, his reemergence becomes the key to the formation of the Avengers.
During the war, Steve Rogers was provided with a serum that gave him superhuman abilities. The first episode of What If… ? turned the entire narrative on its head. Suddenly, Peggy Carter ends up a hero out of time and becomes the Super Soldier. At the same time, Steve remains a hero alongside Captain Carter. His ultimate fate gets a lot different as Captain America never existed at all. But Steve Rogers changed a lot in an alternate timeline without the serum. Don’t worry, Steve Rogers fans, we got you covered. Here are the ten ways Steve Rogers’ life was a lot different without the serum in What if… ?
1. The serum didn’t help Steve to undergo the extreme transformation of his physical appearance.
The super soldier serum did change him from a physical perspective. But it never happened in the new reality. So he’s always a hero in any time or place.
2. Steve Rogers’ life was never ‘frozen’
Until SHIELD revived Captain America, he remained frozen in suspended animation after the battle. While in the new reality, none of this ever happened.
3. Steve Rogers didn’t defeat the Red Skull
In World War II, Captain America’s battles were defined by his rivalry with Red Skull. But the feud never happened in the world where Peggy became a Super Soldier instead of Steve.
4. After missing the Super Soldier Serum, Steve lived a somewhat everyday life
After the end of the first episode of the series, Steve Rogers survived WW II and got the chance to live an ordinary life. However, he continued working with Howard Stark.
5. Steve Rogers essentially lived the best of both worlds and presumably died in his timeline
The What If… ? version of Steve’s life complicated things. After the war, as long as he lived, there’s a good chance that he passed away in this period.
6. Steve’s planned to return the Infinity Stone and then stay in the past and live a life with Peggy.
In What if… ? Captain Carter left Steve behind, and she got lost in time. So with the timeline, the reunion never happened.
7. Steve was the foundation on which the Avenger team was built But he’s the first Iron Man in the alternate continuity.
Stark built the Hydra Stomper armor for Steve to join the fight, which would not have happened if Steve would have taken the Super Soldier Serum.
8. Steve got more time to spend with his closest friend, Bucky.
Though Peggy and Steve didn’t end up together, at least he got a few more years with his friend James Buchanan Barnes.
9. The world got Captain Carter, as the apparent impact on Steve’s life made him an ordinary man since he never became Captain America.
Not being Captain America changed the direction of Steve’s life, but not being the star Avenger would define his life after the war ended.
10. Steve Roger never led the Avengers.
When Captain Carter came out of the dimensional portal, she ended up leading the team.
