Ushering the age of a shared universe, Zack Snyder’sMan of Steelpromised the introduction of several DC characters such as Batman, Aquaman, Green Lantern, The Flash, and many more. But as more and more installments were released, fans were less optimistic about the new introductions.

Justice Leaguebecame the most important film for DCU as it would not only introduce many of the new characters but also be in direct competition with MCU’sAvengers. Unfortunately, the film failed in the eyes of critics and fans, due to reshoots and many other factors.

Becoming a forgotten dream, Martin Campbell’sGreen Lanternwas panned by critics and hated by the fans. The 2011 movie was so hated that even the film’s lead Ryan Reynolds denounced the film and refused to watch it for many years.

Due to its failure, many fans demanded that DC comics release a better film on the fan-favorite character. Finally, at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2015, a new production on the Emerald Gladiator calledGreen Lantern Corpswas supposed to be released by 2020 was announced, but to no avail.
John Boyega as Green Lantern?
Becoming a fan favorite to play John Stewart, John Boyega has an interesting opportunity presented to him. Two years ago, some fans on Twitter had recommended that he should play the next Green Lantern, to which he responded:
This discussion becomes even more relevant after a show on John Stewart has become a reality. Due to the shake-up at WB-Discovery, which resulted in Henry Cavill’s cameo inBlack Adam, new and different projects are underway which include a show on theGreen Lantern Corps.
As James Gunn is also at the helm of DC films, we might get a light-hearted and goofier take on the Green Lantern character, something that might work for John Boyega. The director has been proficient at adapting unusual characters and the Green Lantern roster might be the right match for him.

While John Boyega might be proficient enough to lead the show, many fans have noted his young age working against him, as John Stewart in the comics is middle-aged and rugged. But the DCU is no stranger to major changes in character personality and look, so it shouldn’t be a major hurdle.
What to expect from the Green Lantern show?
Originally a show on Green Laterns was already scripted, which would focus on an openly gay Alan Scott and Guy Gardner. David Zaslav’s overhaul will move focus to John Stewart, who was created in the 1970s.

Furthermore, the show’s budget will be less as under David Zaslav’s new regime, WB-Discovery is scaling down its spending. While writer and showrunner Seth Grahame-Smith has departed from the production, Greg Berlanti and his Warner Bros. TV-based Berlanti Productions remain attached.
