Todd Howard and Starfield – Name a better duo

In the same way Ed Boon does forMortal Kombat, Todd Howard spends his days stealth-marketingStarfieldwithout us ever realising it. Constant interviews and press appearances mean we’re getting information and passing it on to you, the fans, in ways trailers simply don’t cut it any more.

In his latest stint discussing the game, this time with Kinda Funny Xcast, Todd Howard was talking about how important the community is to Bethesda and their games, but specifically this time round, the modders amongst us.

It’s no secret that for certain people, buying the game is just the start of their journey inStarfield. There will be thousands of videos online days after releases, with various mods allowing players to do all sorts. You’ll have the usual naked mods, the Thomas the Tank Engine mods and no doubt Shrek mods, but you’ll also have entire teams of volunteers modding their own storylines, cities, civilisations and more directly into the game, just like those who are makingFallout: London.

Modding is a big deal, and unlike some developers who take the time to banish and destroy the work of the community, Bethesda welcomes it, and this trait seems to be carrying on withStarfieldin mind.

Originally announced during aReddit AMAin 2021, Todd Howard expanded upon the modding community and what it means during his talk with Kinda Funny.

“We’ve usually been classically single-player. That’s been our community, and people are still modding our games and playing them. So we’re doing a lot of it, and I think one of the things I’ll call out is that it’s not just important for us to enable that, but to participate, right? To make it easy for them, to make this not just a hobby but a career. We’ve had a lot of great success there.”

Games likeFalloutandSkyrimhave enjoyed such longevity arguably because of the mod support across the board, with both consoles and PC able to join in on the fun. Without these mods, many would no doubt have grown bored of the same content day-in, day-out, but twelve years on, we’re still seeing incredibly detailed, modern mods forSkyrimthat make it rival todays AAA releases, or in some cases, even surpass them.

What do you make of this? Are you one of those that’ll takeStarfieldand mod it into a completely different game? Or will you leave it as original as the day it launched? Let us know what your plans are in the comments!
