Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski

“That’s the only time I remember putting my foot down. I remember saying things that I never thought I’d say before, like, I’m not going to shoot it. My feeling is there is a threshold with which you may push our audience. They are so dedicated. We have shown such great respect to them. But there’s a moment where if you push them too far, they’ll never come back. And I think that if you show Jim cheating, they’ll never come back.”

Creator’s vision for the Jim and Pam storyline

Reportedly,The Officecreator Greg Daniels had a very different vision for the storyline of the couple. Initially, Daniels wanted the viewers to be worried about Jim’s fidelity in order to create a sense of tension and drama. However, even though he ultimately wanted to deliver a satisfying ending, Krasinski’s explanation about why he did not want to go ahead with the shooting of the scene convinced him to drop it.

As a result, the show chose not to show Cathy as a threat to Jim and Pam’s relationship. In order to dissolve the situation, the makers instead had Dwight (Rainn Wilson) come to the rescue when Jim called him, claiming there were bed bugs in his hotel room.
