If there is anyone that can make a blockbuster superhit film in this day and age, then the award of the undisputed champion of that category will go out to James Cameron without a doubt. During a span of 25 years in the industry, the legendary director has put out three of the top 5 highest-grossing movies of all time, achieving a milestone that no one else has ever come close to before him.
But what is also a very infamous rumor that is often associated with the director is how harsh and thorough he can be when he is auditioning with stars for his upcoming projects. But recently, Marc Maron, the star who auditioned for Cameron for his latest commercial successAvatar: The Way of Water,revealed that he didn’t see any of those rumors to be true about the creator at all when he was in front of him being cast for a role.
Marc Maron Debunks Rumors Of Tough Auditions With James Cameron
With almost a decade of pause between his original and his sequel,James Camerondidn’t disappoint with his latest blockbuster and the sequel to his OG masterpiece.Avatar: The Way of Watersurpassed all expectations as it now sits at the 3rd place of the highest-grossing films of all time. And to achieve this milestone, the director left no stone unturned, which also meant motivating the actors to push past their limits. While he might be strict with everyone on his projects, Marc Maron says that he isn’t anywhere close to the dictator everyone thinks he is.
During a recent episode of theHappy Sad Confusedpodcast with Josh Horowitz, Marc Maron revealed that he had been previously approached by the casting director to audition for a role in the film, and the person who was sitting at the front of that director’s chair was the creator ofTitanichimself. He said that while he was auditioning, he felt that Cameron was not as bad as much as he was weird with the way he conducted that audition. He said:
“James Cameron is not a bad guy, I don’t think. I don’t know. You got out there. You go to this office and he’s like, ‘I want you to read…’ I don’t even know what it was, a doctor, a scientist who drank,” remembered Maron of his audition with Cameron. I’m on camera, I think. I got a picture, a boat, or whatever it is. I’m in the middle of this thing and I’m totally untethered and I have no sense of character,”
Thus, without any information about what and whom he had to portray, he did the best he could with what he had. Unfortunately, he lost the role, but it was fortunate enough for him as he wasn’t ready to travel all the way to New Zealand where the film was shot.
What’s Next For James Cameron?
With his latest film joining his previous projects in the coveted $2 Billion club at the box office, he is now all set to expand the Avatar universe with upcoming sequels. After the events ofAvatar: The Way of Water,the director now sets to travel to the land of fire on the exosolar planet of Pandora to meet with the fire Na’vi tribe and ask for their assistance. While the third installment of the film has already finished filming, the fourth installment will be going into production soon, which means fans wouldn’t have to wait for long.
