Solo: A Star Wars Storyhas recently been confirmed to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 15th,Deadlinereports.

The highly anticipated Ron Howard lead standalone spin off to the popularStar Warsfranchise has set a course for the 71st Cannes Film Festival, just a mere 10 days before the film’s official opening on May 25th.
Solofeatures Alden Ehrenreich in the titular role of Han Solo and Donald Glover as long time ally Lando Calrissian, as well asGame of Thronesstar Emilia Clarke, and Woody Harrelson. Academy Award winning director Ron Howard had took over theLucasfilmproject as it’s director after Phil Lord and Chris Miller had been fired last June.

This is not unprecedented news for aStar Warsfilm to screen at the international film festival. It is to be noted thatStar Wars Episode II: Attack of the ClonesandStar Wars Episode III: Revenge of The Sithpremiered at Cannes as well in 2002 and 2005 respectively. PriorStar Warsfilms beforeSolohad held their premieres in Los Angeles. Howard himself is no stranger to the festival afterThe da Vinci Codepremiered there in 2006.

The 71st Cannes Film Festival is set to run from May 8th to May 19th.
