Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6’s Cover Display Has LCD Panel Instead of AMOLED
SamsungGalaxy Unpacked eventis scheduled for July 10, while the details of Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 leak. The South Korean tech giant is expected to unveil a range of new devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy Watch 7 series, Galaxy Buds 3 series and the Galaxy Ring.
However, in a recent leak by Evan Blass, it was revealed that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 will feature an IPS LCD panel in the cover display instead of a Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel. This news came as a surprise to many. The leaked images, which have since been removed from X (formerly Twitter), included a complete specs sheet for the Galaxy Z Flip 6, clearly showing the IPS label under the ‘Display Technology (second display).’ Check out the fullspecs of Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6.

If these rumors prove true, it’s difficult to imagine a phone with a high price tag opting for an IPS panel. Moreover, this would be a significant downgrade from last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 5, which featured OLED technology. Having used both IPS and OLED phones, I can vouch that IPS cannot match OLED in terms of picture quality: OLED displays offer more vibrant colors, deeper blacks, and superior overall contrast. Additionally, an IPS panel tends to cause more battery drain than an AMOLED panel.
Why Would Samsung Choose IPS LCD Over AMOLED?
