Leaving behind the continuing controversy over DC movies, Zack Snyder has been creating his own cinematic spectacle entitledRebel Moon. Recently, his epic sci-fi just dropped its first teaser trailer and the acclaimed filmmaker is already revealing his plans to include an hour of additional footage, as a director’s cut.

While Zack Snyder’s two-part movie doesn’t actually require a director’s cut, he is still adding the footage out of creative freedom. Zack Snyder Plans ForRebel Moon’sDirector’s Cut
The acclaimed filmmaker, Zack Snyder has been working on hisStar Wars-meets-Dunesci-fi film,Rebel Moonfor a long time. Ever since he left the controversy-ridden DCU in the past, Snyder has been focused on his upcoming sci-fi opera. Recently,Rebel Moondropped its first teaser trailer when the director reverted his plans to include a longer version of the project.
Proposing to releaseRebel Moonas a two-part movie,Zack Snydermentioned adding a director’s cut as he had the creative freedom to shoot the additional footage. Explaining his reasons on Netflix’s PR site, the director mentioned, “The [Rebel Moon] director’s cut is close to an hour of extra content, so I think it’s a legitimate extended universe version,”

“The director’s [cut] is a settle-in deep dive, which I have notoriously done throughout my career…And with Netflix, we shot scenes just for the director’s cut. So in that way, it’s really a revelation because it gives that second kick at the can for big fans, like a real discovery that they would not [otherwise] get. I’m really excited about it!”
Reflecting upon his previous extended versions of 2017’sJustice League, 2016’sBatman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, 2011’sSucker Punch, and more, Synder claimed it’s his particular way of working. Standing his ground and arguing about his approach being completely valid, the filmmaker is willing to benefit from his penchant for retroactively reworking his films.

James Gunn’s DCU Might Benefit From Director’s Cut
Amid Zack Snyder’s plans for a director’s cut forRebel Moon, fans believe it’s something that James Gunn’s DCU needs more than Synder’s masterpiece. Considering the deteriorating condition of DC studios, and the constant downfall of films, a director’s cut is something that might turn out to be beneficial for DC.
Ever since Warner Bros. and DC decided to join hands and craft an interconnected universe similar to MCU, there has been a significant deterioration in the quality of DC movies. Although there have been a few individual successes, DC failed as a unified cinematic universe. And while fans incessantly blame the studio headsJames Gunnand Peter Safran, a deeper understanding is required to analyze the situation.

Thus, amid such tumultuous times, fans believe James Gunn and Peter Safran could genuinely benefit by implementing Zack Snyder’s method of adding director’s cuts to their movies. Considering DCU’s dwindling box office numbers, a director’s cut can save the studios by boosting sales during the digital release phase. However, Gunn seems to be a long way from mastering Snyder’s art of extended versions.
