After the Arrival of Spider-Man 2, Marvel’s Wolverine Could Be Next in Line at Insomniac

The team behind the development ofMarvel’s Spider-Man 2is wrapping up work on that project, as the October 20th release approaches. This means once employees are freed up, Insomniac may be refocusing to its next Marvel game, which is centered around the iconic anti-hero, Wolverine.

According to TCMF Games, Tommy Mann, a senior film animator who helped bringMarvel’s Spider-Man 2to life, began working exclusively on the development ofMarvel’s Wolverine. And it appears this addition would accelerate the new game process. The Twitter/X post said the following:

The development will accelerate to a certain extent, although some previous reports indicated the game’s release date would aim for the end of next year. However, that deadline is undoubtedly at the mercy of changes due to the impact that could be caused by the a writers strike.

If SAG-AFTRA extend its strike to the video game industry, Insomniac Games was listed as one of the major studios that could be struck.

Insomniac Games embarked on this journey of adapting Marvel Comics heroes to video games with 2018’sMarvel’s Spider-Man,and now has Wolverine as its fourth project in the pipeline.

In March 2023, the developer’s chief programmer, Elan Ruskin, revealed the company is continuing to advance the quality of its games and that both this andSpider-Man 2will have“new and exciting dialogue technology”.

Other details that have already been revealed seem to indicate that the game is expected to have a semi-open design map, similar to that ofGod of Warand similar worlds. Also, an element much approved by fans, the title will likely have an adult rating, with a much more mature narrative.

As for the story, Walt Williams was named as narrative director forMarvel’s Wolverine. He previously worked onSpec Ops: The Lineand due to his appointment in 2022, the title may take longer to be developed, as he works to ensure that the game’s script is perfected.

Fans of the anti-hero, Insomniac games, or both, have been excitedly waiting since the teaser trailer was announced in 2021, during the PlayStation Showcase. Those fans need to have a little more patience, but it will ultimately pay off with the delivery of yet another very good story .
