Actors Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell are probably the weirdest combos to have paired up in films. While Wahlberg was known for his action star image, Will Ferrell was popular for his stint onSaturday Night Live. However, the pair teamed up in the action-comedyThe Other Guys, which was the beginning of a long working relationship.

The film starred the actors as two odd-ball cop partners who are tasked with a case. Director Adam McKay mentioned that he came up with the idea of pairing up the two after he saw the chemistry between them at a dinner. He reportedly imagined them in a cop film to explain how the two could possibly work together and then developed the idea.

The Other Guyswas a critical and commercial success as it earned positive reviews, praising the chemistry of Wahlberg and Ferrell, and was compared to another cop film spoof,Cop Out. The film earned over $170 million at the box office.

The duo teamed up again with the family comedyDaddy’s Homewhich featured Ferrell as a stepdad to Wahlberg’s kids after his divorce. The film was Ferrell’s highest-grossing live-action film, earning over $242 million at the box office. The pair teamed up again for a sequelDaddy’s Home 2which was not as successful.

While promotingDaddy’s Home 2onThe Ellen DeGeneres Show,Mark Wahlberg mentioned that his oldest daughter Ella was in contact with Will Ferrell’s son Magnus. He said,

“I thought [Magnus] was a lovely lad until I found out that he has formed some sort of communication with my oldest child.”

After the crowd went berzerk over the news, Will Ferrell clarified that the two follow each other on Instagram. Mark Wahlberg, being the overprotective father he is, mentioned that he was not happy with it initially. He said in an interview onLive with Kelly And Ryan,

“At first I was really upset, but then I was thinking, ‘I know Will, I know his wife, they’re so sweet if I ever had to have my daughter involved with somebody, then who better?’. But still, I would probably still end up killing Will.”

Mark Wahlberg seems to have since mellowed down about the friendship between the two. He mentioned about his fears as a father and how he hopes to deal with these insecurities,

“My whole thing was, it’s inevitable, at some point, [dating is] going to happen. I want to know who she’s going to be hanging out with, what his parents are like, and all that stuff.”

Will Ferrell on the other hand was pretty calm about the situation, saying that apart from his son Magnus’ weird hobby of buying knives online, he was a really sweet kid.
