Starting off as filler between films,Rogue One: A Star Wars Storybecame one of the better-received films in the new slate ofStar Warsproductions. Directed by Gareth Edwards, the film starred Felicity Jones asJyn Erso andDiego Luna asCassian Andor.

The movie followed a rag-tag team led byJyn Erso, who aid the rebel in giving the Empire its first effective defeat. The film departed from the usual tone and style of otherStar Warsfilms, even omitting the opening crawl and the screen wipe transitions.

The success of the Rogue One
The film was mostly praised for its story and acting, by critics and audience alike and was nominated for an Oscar for Visual Effects and Sound Mixing. The film went on to cross the $1 Billion mark.

The film was far better received compared to the sequels, which went on to become extremely controversial with its changing directors and changing scripts because of fan pressure. The franchise has seen more support for its independent projects such asThe Mandalorian.

The Rogue One strikes back
The prequel to the originalStar Wars: A New Hopewill see a re-release in select theatres according to official reports byFandango. Lucasfilm also announced that the showing will also include an exclusive look atAndor, the much-anticipated prequel series.

Set to release on September 21 of this year, the 12-episode feature is expected to tackle some interesting plots left unexplored in other installments, includingCassian Andor’sorigin and the Rebellion’s politics and its formative years.
The re-release ofRogue One: A Star Wars Storyis set to hit select IMAX theatres on August 22, 2025.
