James Cameron who recently directedAvatar: The Way of Waterhas been vocal about his resentment towards OTT, he ardently believes that watching films likeAvataron small screens is unfair as these films are made to be experienced on a silver screen. It is this love for the big screens probably the reason why Cameron’sTitanicwill be re-released in theatres.

The director believes he will not be around for the 50th Anniversary so to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the film, it will be re-released in the theatres.Titanicis the 3rd highest grossing film of all time just belowAvengers: EndgamewithAvatarleading the list.
James Cameron “will not” re-releaseTitanicon its 25th Anniversary
After deciding that the film will be re-released for its 25 Anniversary, the question was when to which Cameron had a peculiar answer. The director plans to not re-release the film on 05 July 2025, its official 25th anniversary instead the director plans to re-release the film on Valentine’s day, and he explains why,
“Then the question was, ‘Okay, what’s the date?’ Well, the date that made sense to me was Valentine’s Day, because, in the original release, which was from 1997 into 1998, we came out a few days before Christmas. I think it was December 16. But the highest-grossing single day of the release was Valentine’s Day.”

He continues,
“Kind of obvious why, but very unusual for a film that’s been in the marketplace for two months to have its biggest single performing day. So it’s a celebration of love. It’s a celebration of the movie, at the same time. And it’s a celebration of the success of the movie as well. So, yeah.”

The decision is based on a careful analysis of ticket sales in the past. For those waiting to see the film back in theatres, it will release on February 10 in 3D 4K HDR and high frame rate. Cameron also clarified that the remastering was done 10 years ago however the Dolby Atmos is a new addition to the experience.

“So it’s just a little fuller and a little more around you.Butwe haven’t changed the frame of the movie. There’s no Easter eggs or little, you know, end-credit sequence. We don’t have to tease another movie.
The director, when talking about how the re-release will be different than the original movie, clarifies that the film will not tease another movie or lend itself to arousing excitement for other films of Cameron.

The re-release ofTitanicfeels like a ploy to put his film at the top again. Even though the director remains at the top withAvatarit seems that he has not let the defeat go. If the film is re-released on Valentine’s day the Box-Office collection of the film will automatically increase and might probably beatEndgamere-gaining its position as the second highest-grossing film of all time. His choice of Valentine’s Day for re-releasingTitanicwill boost sales, Cameron has also hinted at some changes in the film to attract audiences to the theatre.

James Cameron carried out an experiment to put the controversies around Jake’s death at bay
James Cameron is tired of hearing theories about how Jack could have been saved and so in an attempt to silence the clatter he finally held an experiment to prove that the both of them could not have survived. Speaking to The Toronto Sun the director explains the experiment.
“We have done a scientific study to put this whole thing to rest and drive a stake through its heart once and for all. We have since done a thorough forensic analysis with a hypothermia expert who reproduced the raft from the movie and we’re going to do a little special on it that comes out in February.”
“We took two stunt people who were the same body mass of Kate and Leo and we put sensors all over them and inside them and we put them in ice water and we tested to see whether they could have survived through a variety of methods and the answer was, there was no way they both could have survived. Only one could survive.”

Even though it was not scientifically possible to save the both of them, the director never actually planned to save Jack and Rose, killing Jack was a choice he made to drive the point home that love requires sacrifice. When asked if he considered saving the lover boy in any other way, Cameron was clear that he did not,
“No, he needed to die. It’s like Romeo and Juliet. It’s a movie about love and sacrifice and mortality. The love is measured by the sacrifice.”
