Indiana Jones 5, in the mind of all those who have been associated with theGeorge Lucasfranchise, sets out to be the hunt to end all hunts as the immortalized Captain Dynamite tips his fedora and cracks his bullwhip for the last time. As such, it is only appropriate that director James Mangold would want to honor Ford’s onscreen representation in a manner that is deserving of his career-defining and ever-living legacy.

“It became really important to me to figure out how to make this a movie about a hero at sunset. The issues I brought up about Indy’s age were not things I thought were being addressed in the material being developed at the time. There were ‘old’ jokes, but the material itself wasn’t about it. To me, whatever you greatest liability, you should fly straight towards that. If you try to pretend it’s not there, you end up getting slings and arrows the whole way.”

Fate may have demanded that the yet untitledIndiana Jones 5needs to put to rest the great life and legacy of the titular hero, but until then, one ought to remember —“We do not follow maps to buried treasure, and X never ever marks the spot.”
