In the opening scene of Sam Mendes’ 2015 movie featuring Daniel Craig, the actor is seen chasing a villain through crowds of people celebrating the festival Day of the Dead. Thereafter, the idea for the parade during the festival was born out of the imagination of the Bond movie’s script writer.

Traditional celebration of All Souls’ Day aka Día de Muertos, in Mexico used to be very different from Halloween. According to the traditions, the holiday used to be a quiet family gathering at the graves of loved ones, bringing them music, drink, and conversation.

In the movie, the scriptwriter imagined a parade of people in skeleton outfits and floats. Thus, in the opening scene, Craig’s character is seen running through the parade chasing a villain.

Now, as mentioned earlier, such a spectacle has never been a part of traditional Day of the Dead celebrations. But, the movie influenced its audiences in such a way that Mexico had to dream up a celebration to match the one shown in the movie. As a result, Mexicans held its first Day of the Dead parade in 2016, following the release ofSpectre.
