Uma Thurman started off her Hollywood journey back in the late 1980s. She is still going strong and will soon be coming out withThe Kill Roomwhich is set to release next month. However, Uma Thurman’s life in the entertainment industry has not always been one full of glitz and glamour.

At one point, the actress was scared that she might face a huge setback in her career owing to the fact that she was taking a break from acting to spend time with her kids. Despite the fear, Uma Thurman believes it was all worth it as she now has an amazing relationship with her children.

Renowned filmmakerQuentin Tarantinowas absolutely head over heels forUma Thurman. He was once asked if he’d like to marry the actress to which he replied,“I don’t know what she’d think about that but it’s my life that’s at stake in this question.”Elsewhere, he placed Thurman in“goddess territory”when it came to her beauty.

A lot of people feel the same way when it comes to Thurman because the actress is truly a force to reckon with. She’s talented, radiates positive energy, and is downright stunning. So when she went on a hiatus after the birth of her first child, many were disappointed. Even Thurman was doubtful that her career graph could decline owing to the hiatus.
However, one thing she was sure about was that she wanted to spend as much time as she could with her children. Talking to WebMD, she stated,

“I probably very much shortchanged my career when I did that, but it was worth it. Still, it’s not easy. I have a wonderful relationship with my children, and they’re the most important thing to me, but one does wish to have a creative, independent life as a person, too. It’s hard to be a self-sufficient provider and parent and have a foot in both worlds.”
After having 2 children withEthan Hawke, a daughter in 1998 and a son in 2002, the couple broke off their marriage and went their separate ways. Getting brutally honest about being a single, working mom, Thurman told Red Book,

“[It is]deeply challenging. And quite lonely. I just don’t feel like the ins and the outs of it are acknowledged or shared very much. But parenting itself is a wonderful thing. The beauty outweighs the difficulty,”
Clearly, Thurman has no regrets about putting her career on the back burner for her family. On the other hand, Thurman never needed to worry about her career losing its spark as the phenomenal actress never stopped being a popular name. And although she lost big roles like the one inLord of the Rings, she bounced back and stuck the landing with absolute perfection!

During her appearance onThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert,Thurman stated,
“It was a very long time ago, and I do consider it one of the worst decisions ever made. But I just had my first child and, I don’t know, I was a little housebound. I think I was a little bit, it was a little unknown for me, but it’s really definitely a regret.”
The role went toWar of the Worldsactress Miranda Otto who was heavily praised for her performance. Otto will soon reprise her role in the 2024 prequel film,The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.
