Tom Holland’s latest Apple TV+ thriller seriesThe Crowded Roomwas heavily panned by critics, putting a downer on the actor’s self-esteem. He rose to fame for his portrayal of Spider-Man from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it seems that Holland isn’t getting any success in projects outside the realm of the superhero world.

In an interview withUnilad, Marvel starTom Hollandlikened working inThe Crowded Roomto being an avid supporter of England’s Tottenham Hotspur, his favorite soccer team. The club has never won the Premiere League, but they remain relentless, and this taught Holland the meaning of resilience:

“I think being a Tottenham fan is somewhat like being in ‘The Crowded Room.’ It has taught me resilience. Tottenham has never won anything and supporting them is incredibly difficult. It’s no secret my show has been so horribly reviewed, but I’m here today to promote the show and I’m still here. I’m very resilient. It’s a good quality.”

The Crowded Roomaired earlier this month and has been bombarded with harsh criticism. It currently holds an average critics score of 31% on Rotten Tomatoes. The series follows Holland’s character, Danny Sullivan, who was arrested in 1979 due to a shooting at Rockefeller Center in New York City.

Holland added the importance of focusing on the message of the show rather than letting the bad reviews take away the experience:

“I think that the message of the show, which can speak to so many different issues is that asking for help should be something that we as a society celebrate. It’s an act of bravery. Standing up and asking for help is not something you should be ashamed of, and I hope that this show can represent that in a truthful and authentic, and most importantly, sensitive way.”

Despite the brutal critics’ rating, Holland was happy to know that fans enjoyed the series and gave a generous 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
