During a press conference ahead of the 2023 festival’s opening night, Fremaux addressed Haenel’s claims, saying,“She didn’t think that when she came to Cannes unless she suffered from a crazy dissonance.”
He further denied the claims that the Cannes Film Festival celebrates r*pist. He also addressed the criticism surroundingMaiwenn‘s filmJeanne du BarryfeaturingJohnny Deppas French King Louis XV. He said that he’s unaware of the actor’s image in the USA, but he only follows one rule.
“To tell you the truth, in my life, I only have one rule, it’s the freedom of thinking, and the freedom of speech and acting within a legal framework.”
He further said that if theDark Shadowsstar was “banned from acting” or the film was banned, there wouldn’t be any discussion about it. Fremaux also said that the controversy came up after the film was announced at Cannes. He also claimed that it was the director’s choice to cast Depp in the film, and he could not say anything about it.
