Gary Oldman is a talented English movie star and character actor who is well-known for his expressive acting style. He is celebrated as one of the best thespians of his generation, as he has a diverse career — from theatre to TV and Hollywood. No doubt, that is why Oldman is the epitome of method acting.

One of the Oldman’s most iconic roles is of Detective James Gordon in Christopher Nolan’sBatman Begins(2005), a role he played again inThe Dark Knight(2008) andThe Dark Knight Rises(2012). As a police Lieutenant, Oldman is perfectly cast.
We all know that scene toward the end ofBatman Begins,when Batman needs Gordon’s help to stop Ra’s al Ghul from using fear gas. Gordon asks,“What do you need?”Batman, holding the key to the Tumbler, replies,“Can you drive stick?”

Gordon gets ready to help Batman and take charge of driving the Tumbler. Recently, in an interview, the actor said that he feels lucky to have driven Batman’s car, as he was one of those actors who got lucky to drive the Batmobile in the series.

Gary Oldman Feels Lucky to Drive Batmobile inBatman Begins
The Batmobile, known as the Tumbler, was designed by writer-director Christopher Nolan for theDark Knighttrilogy. It was completely a custom-made mobile for the movie that shares the same details with today’s conventional vehicles.
In theLate Night with Conan O’Brien, Gary Oldman told the host that he got to drive the Batmobile. He also addressed the fact it was just a kind of “module in the studio” which he was just “wobbling it up and down”:

“But the last one in the first Batman Begins, I got to drive the Batmobile which was pretty cool. Well it was a sort of module in a studio and you know guys wobbling it up and down and I told my kids that I drove Batmobile.”
Even though driving the Batmobile was nothing more than wobbling a module up and down in the studio, still, Oldman felt lucky to have done that.

Gary Oldman Said They Would Have Let Him Take Batmobile Home
Gary Oldman toldDark Horizonsthat Gordon got the chance to do something that characters in this series don’t usually get — to drive the Batmobile.
“Only with the green screen, but I think I’m one of the few characters [who gets to drive it] so it’s a coup to be able to drive the Batmobile. They may let me take one home.”
The star is glad to have had the opportunity, and he also felt that at a certain point, they may let him take the Batmobile home.
