Discussing withUS Weekly,Zooey Deschanelenvisioned a romantic ending for her onscreen character Summer. Denying the fact that her character broke Tom’s heart, the actress expressed her views in 2019, during an interview withEntertainment Weekly.
“I’m just so surprised when women will be like, ‘I hated your character in that movie!’ I’m like, ‘Really? She said everything from the beginning!”

Thus, willing to offer her character a proper happy ending, Deschanel shared her idea withUS Weekly. Wishing for Summer to be with Tom, the actress mentioned,
“I hope Summer and Tom found each other again later in life”
Further, she even entertained the idea of a500 Days of Summersequel in order to give her character the desired ending. Looking for a different perspective on the roles and the movie itself, Zooey Deschanel opened up about a possible second film.
