How to Find your Router’s IP Address

Every router has a configuration page which you can access by a web browser. There, you can see the list of all devices connected to your network, monitor their internet usage, and even limit their bandwidth. But, to access that configuration page, you first need to know the router’s IP address or the default gateway.

Now, if you don’t know your router’s IP address, try —192.168.1.1or192.168.0.1. These are the two most common default IP address for routers. However, if this doesn’t work, or if someone has changed the default login address, then this is what you can do.

Find your Router’s IP Address

If you are on Windows machine,open cmdand type in the following command and hit enter. The value next to default gateway is your router’s IP address.

If for some reason, you don’t have access to cmd, then you’re able to do it with GUI as well. Go to Network and Sharing center> Connections > Details. And look for the router’s IP address next to IPv4 Default Gateway. (see screenshot)

If you are on MAC computer, then open up the terminal and type in the following command. The value next to a gateway is your Router’s IP address.

route -n get default

Again, since MAC is based on Linux kernel, steps are pretty similar in both OS. Open the terminal, type the following command and hit enter. The IP address below the Gateway is your router’s IP address.

Android/iOS

You can also find the router’s IP address from your smartphone. Simply install any network scanner app likeFing(available for both iOS and Android). Next, open the app and refresh it so that it can scan your WiFi. Now, tap on the network name on the top and look for the value next to the gateway. This is your router’s IP address.

What Next?

Now, once you have the router’s login address, enter that in the URL box of a web browser. Now you’ll then asked for login credentials. Again, in most cases, the default username and password are either — admin and admin or admin and password. Or you may check thisonline database. However, if nothing works, contact the person, who has set up your network.
