Henry Cavill is all set to return to our screens early in 2024 as author Elly Conway’s idealized agent Argylle in Matthew Vaughn’s spy movie of the same name.

Be it in the DCEU orThe Witcherseries, in the last decade or so, Cavill has shown a penchant for portraying his roles so well that fans can’t get enough of him. The disappointing fan reactions to the casting of David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia are enough to show just how successfully Cavill managed to immerse himself into a superhero and a witcher. Now, hisArgylledirector believes the actor has the talent to do something similar with his role of a spy.

Argylleis his latest attempt to explore the mystique of the secretive and thrilling world. In this movie, he sheds light on a secret agent named Argylle from author Elly Conway’s best-selling espionage novels. Things get twisted when the plot of Conway’s books starts to mirror the actions of a real-life spy organization.

During an interview withDen of Geek, Vaughn was asked ifHenry Cavillwas his 007. Not only did he seemingly agree with the statement but also went on to make an interesting remark about hisArgyllestar potentially playing James Bond.
“Yes, I call him 007 and a half. I adore him,”Vaughn said.“He would make a brilliant Bond, really would. I know when he did the screen test for Bond [in 2005], if he was older, he probably would have got it. He was just too young at that time. I think Ian Fleming, when he wrote Bond, Henry Cavill would have been on his mind.”

Having already auditioned for the part in 2005, there’s a good chance Cavill would be interested in a potential opportunity to play the iconic agent on the big screen.

Why Henry Cavill Was Turned Down for the Role of James Bond in 2005
The 40-year-old tried to bag the role of James Bond for the 2006 franchise rebootCasino Royalewhen he was just 22 but lost the part to fellow Englishman Daniel Craig.
According to the movie’s director Martin Campbell, Cavill was tremendous during his audition. He toldThe Daily Express:
“And look, if Daniel didn’t exist, Henry would have made an excellent Bond. He looked terrific, he was in great physical shape…very handsome, very chiseled. He just looked a little young at that time back then.”
