It has been more than two decades since Sam Raimi’sSpider-Man(2002) hit the theaters and introduced Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker and Kirsten Dunst’s Mary Jane Watson. The duo was undeniably one of the earliest pairings that Marvel fans rooted for, especially when they shared that iconic kiss.

Older fans might remember that scene, but little kids today have probably never watched the movies, at least the oldSpider-Manfilms. Surprisingly, even Dunst’s children have no clue their mother was part of it.

Kirsten Dunst’s Children Are Unaware Their Mom Was Spider-Man’s Lover
Kirsten Dunstshares two kids, five-year-old Ennis and two-year-old James, with actorJesse Plemons. On herInstagramaccount, the actress posted a photo of one of her children holding a Spider-Man umbrella with the caption: “Has no clue his mom was MJ.”
Her children are still too young to have a grasp of the kind of fame their parents have. While Dunst is famous for her role in theSpider-Manfilm series, Plemons is recognized for his part inBreaking Bad. The kid is definitely too innocent to watch these movies, but once he does, he will absolutely get shocked.

There is also the question of having to explain the iconic upside-down kissing scene withTobey Maguirein the film, so Dunst is probably waiting for a few more years before she would introduce her own movies to her children.

As for Dunst’s possible return as Mary Jane Watson, the actress had expressed interest in becoming part of the multiverse. Since Maguire has already appeared inSpider-Man: No Way Home, it opened an opportunity for the actress to reprise her role. She toldBackstage:
“You know I’d join that multiverse! I feel like I’m the only one that hasn’t joined it. I’m like, ‘Please put me in. Put me in the lineup.’ I need to pay for my house and kids.”

However, in another interview, Dunst admitted she doesn’t watch superhero films and that she’s too old to play MJ again. She toldTotal FilmviaGames Radar:
“I haven’t seen any of them. I don’t watch superhero movies, though. I don’t watch anything like that. It’s just not my kind of movie. I can’t tell you the last time I saw one. I think I saw maybe Captain America with my friend in a theatre, which was – what? – a long time ago when that first came out. I just don’t watch them.”
Bringing the older version of MJ into the multiverse will definitely need a lot of brainstorming and preparation, though only time will tell if Dunst will actually have the chance to join the MCU.

Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst Had A Past While FilmingSpider-ManMovies
Just like the two otherSpider-Manlead couples, Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst dated during the filming of the first movie.Sam Raimi, the director, informedThe Sydney Morning Herald:
“I actually had some worries about that. They apparently began dating with each other, I think, in the middle of the first movie, although I didn’t know it at the time, but definitely they eventually broke up before the second movie. I was concerned they wouldn’t get the same chemistry back, but it was just me worrying.”
That would be a disaster if the split was not amicable, but thankfully, Dunst and Maguire worked together professionally for the second and third films. Indeed, the actress will have to do a lot of explaining to her children in the future.
