It has already won the hearts of the fans despite having poor CGI, the chemistry of the main cast saves the day.

People Bomb Nia DaCosta with Unjust Criticism
AsThe Marvelswas released in the theatres, the film gathered mixed responses from the fans and mostly negative responses from the critics as they unremorsefully bashed the film for its flaws and poor CGI. In contrast, the film gathered an 85% score from the audience on Rotten Tomatoes, as they found the film entertaining to watch.
However, some of the haters were not having it, as they went onto Twitter to highlight her with unwarranted criticism. A user (@RiseAgain)tweetedhow she had“directed only one feature before”which happened to be the 2021 horror film,Candymanbut that was also a flop.

The director of the Marvels had only directed one feature before.
It was the failed retelling of Candyman.
They’re letting people with barely any experience direct 250 mil dollar films based on their race and gender.
Be as critical of it as you want. It’s all rigged.pic.twitter.com/bElZNy4jPz

However, fans were quick to jump to supportNia DaCostaon the social media platform, as a fan tweeted that the tweet is factually incorrect in a plethora of ways and that the film is her third feature film, while her 2021 film has a rating of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes.

This is factually incorrect in so many ways.
It’s not her second feature, it’s her third (just like Leterrier, Watts, and Coogler)
Candyman did 3x its budget and has an 84% Certified Fresh Tomatometer.
But like you said, you’re bringing it up because of “race and gender” 🙄

Another fan tweeted that DaCosta’s 2018 crime drama film has a 95% score on Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes.
Little Woods. 95% on RT.

Another fan called the hater a“nasty racist and misogynist”as well as an ignorant who can’t even have a factually correct tweet.
You’re a nasty racist and misogynist but also you’re incorrect because Candyman was her second film. Not surprised you can’t even get your facts right.

Another user factually corrects them, and questions how jealous they are with the success of Nia DaCosta.
Her 3rd film, not her 2nd.She’s educated from a world renowned filmmaking school [Tisch].Candyman was a sequel not a remake, and it was an absolute critical and commercial success. How jealous of her success in Comic Books are you compared to your failures and relative age?
— Christopher Brolin (@FilmGamerOne)July 19, 2025
A fan stated that they hate her because she broke through the patriarchal society.
“It’s all rigged because they allowed a non-white, non-male to ever direct a single movie. You should be furious, nerds.”
— Don (@D0nnievito)July 27, 2025
The unwanted comment was unjustified as a factually wrong tweet would create misinformation aboutThe Marvels’director, and commenting on her race and gender for her opportunities is wrong for them to criticize her.

Nia DaCosta Criticizes Marvel’s Multiverse Approach
As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues with its Multiverse saga, new projects, and series are being released. Until now the saga has failed to impress the ardent MCU fans as most of the projects have failed to make a lasting impact in the box office as well as in the minds of the viewers. While Nia DaCosta has directedThe Marvelsshe has some serious criticism on the multiverse.
During an exclusive interview with Total Film magazine viaGamesradar, Nia DaCosta stated that she is not a big fan of the multiverse excursions saying it “was always very stressful to me.” Though it is true because the multi-dimensions make the movie somewhat confusing and difficult to understand, it would vary from person to person who wants a complicated yet enjoyable film consisting of their favorite superheroes.
