Rumors and leaks for the next Nintendo console are making the rounds again. Dubbed the “Nintendo Switch 2” by leakers and fans alike, the latest leak features an Xbox One size console and mouse scroll wheels next to the triggers. Is Nintendo abandoning the portability/mobile aspect for the Nintendo Switch 2? And how can mouse scroll wheels work for console gaming?
This leak comes from ananonymous source, claiming to be a TSA worker who was involved in screening a Nintendo employee privately. The employee had a large pelican case, often used for sensitive equipment like camera gear and firearms to ensure maximum protection for the contents. As the anonymous source describes it, the screening revealed the Nintendo Switch 2 to be a large horizontal computer (about the size of an Xbox One) and a busted controller with mouse scroll wheels next to each trigger. A further pat down also revealed the Nintendo employee to work in Research and Development.

Is This The Nintendo Switch 2?
Leaks on anonymous sites like this should always be taken with a grain of salt. There have been hints and rumors of a Nintendo Switch 2 for years now with official confirmation never following through. Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America, confirmed withAP Newsabout four months ago no new console or device to announce. The newestNintendo Directfrom two weeks ago on June 21 showed no signs of a new console, announcing more games for the existing Nintendo Switch console likeSuper Mario RPGandSuper Mario Bros. Wonder.
If Nintendo is working on a “Nintendo Switch 2,” they’re likely still developing the console to meet their standards of quality. The anonymous source does not give enough detail on the situation to make others believe in its credibility, especially with so many new rumors, leaks, and overall speculation on the Nintendo Switch 2 that’s been going on for years. The source did provideproofof their occupation, taking a photo of their TSA badge minus their badge numbers. The photo initially provided by the anonymous source is a generic graphic featuring the Nintendo logo and Mario posed next to it. The photo can easily be found on Google Images by typing in “nintendo logo” and findingPatrickSiegler1999’s DeviantArt post.
Many of the comments don’t believe the source while others think it’s a developer kit. The size of the console means it’s not meant for portable gaming. It would be extremely jarring for Nintendo to abandon the“designed to play at home or on-the-go”feature of the Nintendo Switch. It has worked so well for them so far, especially after the failure of the Wii U. The dev kit possibility is still there. Scroll wheels next to the triggers is a unique feature as no current console controller officially features them. Attachments are available toadd a scroll wheel to your controllerbut nothing official.

The Nintendo Switch has been around for over six years now, since 2017. The only major console upgrade for the Nintendo Switch was in 2021 with the OLED model but itdid not have any spec updates. Fans have been wanting a Nintendo Switch 2 for years to compete with the latest generation of consoles in the Xbox Series X|S and the PlayStation 5.
