Fans have been trying to have their voices heard as Sony continues to develop a failed franchise based on Spider-Man villains, by recasting them as anti-heroes. This universe distinctly lacks a Spider-Man, which is the reason that these villains are tied together in the first place. However, Sony seems to be keen on marching on to create this franchise and a concerning link has appeared in the upcoming Madame Web film and the critical and commercial failure that was Morbius.

Madame Webb

Already being tabled by fans for looking like a ‘fan film’, Madame Web seems to have to end in sight for its troubles. Fans are worried about the franchise, given that the writing duo Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless seem to be returning to Sony’s Spider-Man Universe film the franchise.

Jared Leto in and as Morbius

Sony seems to be heading at another Morbius-sized blunder

Morbiuswas the film that was infinitely memed and panned at the same time. The Jared Leto starter had committed blunder after blunder, even prompting the producers of the film to re-release the film, horribly misreading the fact that the film was being laughed at and not laughed with. The issue that has now surfaced for the franchise is that the screenwriters for the film, Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, have been enlisted to write the Dakota Johnson starerMadame Web, which has left fans concerned that it would yield a similarly wacky and unsatisfactory product.

The screenwriting duo is not new to the game, but the filmography that the duo has carved out for themselves does not inspire hope for the franchise. The duo has worked solely on such critically panned films asPower Rangers,Dracula Untold,Gods of Egypt, andThe Last Witchhunter. However, there is hope in the film, given that the writing team consists of five people and not just the twoPower Rangeralums.

What could save Sony’s Spider-Man universe?

Apart from theVenomIP, it has been notoriously difficult for the franchise to make money off of the Spider-Man properties that Sony has rights over. What could help the franchise as a whole would be to introduce a version of the Spider-Man to tie the universe together. While this could be a new character, fans have also been clamoring to see Spider-Man be a part of the Spider-Man universe.

why does Sony keep trying to make people go see movies about Madame Web and Hypno Hustler and El Muerto and Big Wheel when they could literally just make a live-action Spider-Man 2099 movie. like they own him. they could do that whenever they feel like it.

Hopefully when Madame Web bombs, Sony execs realize they have the keys to Spider-Man, and they make something interesting like Spider-Man 2099 or something.pic.twitter.com/wzhzdgrACl

Fans seem to be fed up with giving Sony a chance, as the company takes some of the greatest Spider-Man villains and turns them into unsuccessful superheroes. It is perhaps about time that Spider-Man films that Sony is making are about Spider-Man indeed, with competent writers behind the driver’s seat.
