However, the British-American director has his own distinct way of filming his movies which is pretty evident after watching the final cut of the movie. Christopher Nolanhas his unique way of doing things in the industry and well the results have always spoken for themselves. While explaining his decision to not use green screens and CGIs in most movies, Nolan explained that modern technologies just do not capture the ‘true essence of cinema.‘ He said,

“On my films, I attempt to shoot as much in-camera as possible. On Interstellar, for example, we didn’t use any green screens. So when we were shooting inside a spaceship, we had views outside the windows. We produced all that material, and we shot it and achieved the effect in-camera. We’ve built a set for that and we enhanced it with visual effects and visual effects technology has been wonderful for enhancing those things and increasing the vocabulary. But sometimes when you’re asked to justify these things, like not using green screens, you have to just bring it down to, well, it’s so much more fun to do it. It’s fun for the actor. It’s fun for me.”

Nolan further talked about why he does not like working with green screens. According to him, the ‘magic‘ of cinema is just not there when a “couple of actors” are present in front of a green screen instead of filming on the sets specifically made for the movie.

“I think Interstellar is just more obviously personal and more obviously about emotion than my other films, so yes, it absolutely comes to the forefront, but it’s because that’s what the story is about entirely. I mean, it’s literally about connections between human beings and what they might mean if we look at them from a different perspective.”
