Here we are, the final 8 teams left in the race for theSuper Bowl. I apologise in advance for my absence, real-life was a bit crazy lately, but I’m good to go now to bring moreNFLcontent. Now to the game at hand between theKansas City Chiefs(13-4) and theIndianapolis Colts(11-7). TheChiefsgot here through the bye winning their division and having one of the top 2 teams in theAFC. TheColtson the other hand had to beat theHouston Texansin theWild Cardround to make it to this game. This game was played in theChiefshome which gave a nice home field advantage to the well restedChiefs. This advantage would seem very apparent as theChiefsplayed well, but did they play well enough?
TheChiefssolid play throughout the game started early as the drew first blood with a touchdown. The snow on the field seemed to have little effect onChiefsrunning backDamien Williamsas he scampered 11 yards for the touchdown. This put theChiefsup 7-0, and they weren’t done there. Still in the first quarter, back up running backTyreek Hillwould convert on his only carry on the day taking it 36 yards for a touchdown puttingKansasup 14-0 after the 1st. TheChiefswould also end up opening the scoring in the 2nd quarter asHarrison Butkerwould convert on a 39 yard field goal increasing the lead to 17-0. TheColtswould get on the board shortly after asHajee Goodewould block a punt resulting in a special teams touchdown cutting the deficit to 17-7.Kansaswould respond to that touchdown with one of their own asPatrick Mahomeswould scamper 4 yards for the touchdown, bolstering the lead to 24-7 to end the half. It would have been 24-10 hadAdam Vinatierinot missed a 23 yard field goal at the end of the half, but alas it was not meant to be for the wily veteran.
There would be no scoring for either team in the 3rd quarter which meant theColtswould have to make up a 17 point deficit in the 4th to have any hope of advancing. Late in the 4thIndianapoliswould be the first to score in the half asAndrewLuckfoundT.Y. Hiltonin the endzone for a 29 yard passing touchdown. Unbelievably enoughVinetieriwould also miss the point after so theColtsnow trailed 24-13. That’s where the comeback would halt as theChiefswould add an insurance touchdown. This timeDarrel Williamswould get the rushing touchdown taking it 6 yards up the gut and putting this game away. The final score of the game would be 31-13 forKansasas the move on to theAFCconference championship round.
This was oddly enough not a great game for the quarterbacks.Patrick Mahomesonly had a meh performance going 27/41 for 278 yards.Mahomesdid add a rushing touchdown on 1 of 3 carries.ColtspivotAndrew Luckdidn’t fair much better going 19/36 for 203 yards and 1 touchdown. There were rushing touchdowns galore for theChiefsas 4 different players scored rushing touchdowns(Damien Williams, Tyreek Hill, Darrel Williams, and Patrick Mahomes). The top performer forKansasin the running game wasDamien Williamswho had 25 carries for 129 yards and 1 touchdown. TheColtsstruggled on the ground asMarlon Mackhad only 46 yards on 9 carries. NoChiefreceivers caught touchdowns this game, butTravis Kelcemade good ground getting 108 yards on 7 catches.T.Y. Hiltonhad the only receiving touchdown on the day, he lead theColtswith 4 catches for 60 yards.Harrison Butkerwas a perfect 1/1 for field goals for theChiefs, whereasAdam Vinatierimissed his only attempt on the night going 0/1.
