Robert De Niro and his former assistant Graham Chase Robinson were facing off over dueling misconduct claims in the Manhattan federal court. The actor was accused of subjecting her to gender discrimination and harassment, while De Niro’s counterclaim alleged financial misconduct on her end.

After competing over allegations of gender-based and financial wrongdoing for years, the trial proceedings found the actor not personally liable for gender discrimination against Robinson. However, his production company was found liable to pay 10% of the original demand.

Graham Chase Robinson has been working as an executive assistant at Robert De Niro’s company, Canal Productions, since 2008. With the hope of having a prominent career in the entertainment industry, Robinson joined De Niro’s company and was promoted to director of production in 2011 and vice president of production and finance in 2017.

However, she claimed that all the promotions came amid a backdrop of allegedly “abusive” behavior. Therefore, in 2019 Graham Chase Robinson sued the veteran actor for $12M, alleging that “he attacked her in gender terms, calling her a ‘b*tch’ and a ‘brat.’the lawsuit also alleged that De Niro would joke with her about his Viagra prescription and suggest a male co-worker to be her sperm donor.

Among all the claims that came from Robinson about gender discrimination and underpay,Robert De Niroinsisted that his former assistant was the wrongful party. Thus, De Niro’s company countersued Robinson for $6M claiming that his allegations against her started in August 2019, when his company sued her, alleging financial misconduct. The actor claimed that his assistant improperly treated the production venture as a personal piggy bank.

Graham Chase Robinson Only Got 10% of Her Original Demand

Robert De Niro vs Graham Chase Robinson’s lawsuit therefore went on for years, when both parties presented the jury with their claims and allegations. But finally, the jury’s decision ended a years-long legal battle, whenBBCreported that on November 9, the court offered its verdict on the case. The jurors did not find the actor personally liable in the civil trial.

However, after eight days of testimony and five hours of deliberation, the jury did not find Robinson to be liable for any of Canal’s financial misconduct claims, either. When the verdict was read aloud in the courtroom, Robert De Niro was not present but Robinson was seen smiling as the decision was handed down and hugging her lawyers.

Robinson’s $12M lawsuit alleging she was abused, demeaned, underpaid, and treated like De Niro’s “office wife”, helped her extract 10% of her original demand. According to the verdict, Robert De Niro’s production company was found liable to pay $1.2M in damages to his former assistant, over claims of gender discrimination and retaliation.
