After thirteen long years,Alan Wake 2is finally set to release tomorrow. However, the game’s release will not mean the end of support for the long-awaited sequel, as developer Remedy Entertainment has a lineup of exciting new additions to the game planned after launch.

Alan Wake 2 has so far displayed incredible graphics, pushing the envelope for the industry.

Remedy had previously promised to provide players that it plans to place more content into the game after release in the form of free updates and paid DLC, the latter of which was first announced months ago after the game’s initial gameplay reveal, and it has now begun to peel back the curtain on these updates a bit.

Alan Wake 2 Again and Again

The first major post-launch update thatRemedy has announcedforAlan Wake 2is the addition of a New Game+ mode. It has been promised that this mode will allow players to “retain all unlocked weapons and upgrades.” At the same time, the update will see the return of the first game’s Nightmare difficulty level.

Perhaps most exciting about this eventual update is the promise of a “new alternative narrative,” giving players the chance to see the story once again in a new light. As part of this, Remedy promises this will include “new Manuscript pages and new video content.” It is unknown if the game’s core story will be altered in any way, however.

The original game also featured several Manuscript pages that were exclusive to the Nightmare difficulty; however, it is unclear at this time if the new pages will be exclusive to New Game+ only, Nightmare difficulty, or a mix of both.

The exact release timing for New Game+ and Nightmare mode has still yet to be determined, but it will not be the final bit of new content, however. Two paid expansions have been announced forAlan Wake 2.

The expansions will be titledNight SpringsandLake House. The former should be familiar to longtime fans of the series, but for those unaware,Night Springsis the title of a fictionTwilight Zone-esque television series that had episodes scattered throughout the first game to find and view.

Alan Wake also happened to write for the series early on in his career and even wrote a new “episode” for it that served as the plot toAlan Wake’s American Nightmare, the 2012 Xbox Live Arcade game that portrayed one of Alan’s many attempts to escape the Dark Place.
