After the abysmal performance ofThor: Love and Thunder, it seems like either Marvel Studios or film directorTaika Waititiare trying to bring the story of the God of Thunder on the right track. Therefore, as reported byBusiness Insider, the director will no longer be part of the next film featuringChris Hemsworthas the titular superhero. He still is in reports of directing aStar Warsfeature in the future, but nothing on the MCU side of things.

With the aforementioned news making rounds among the fans of the MCU, it seems like they too are done with Waititi’s involvement in the films, which is why they are looking forward to Thor 5 with a new filmmaker with a new vision. Thus, here are eight potential candidates to fill the shoes left behind by theJojo Rabbitdirector.

1: Wes Anderson

Since the production and direction of the films in the series took a stylized turn with Waititi’s takeover in the last two movies, it will not be entirely out of the blue for Marvel Studios to employ Wes Anderson for his highly eccentric form of artistic expression and execution. along with that, he is also known for consistently putting out critically successful films, something that the MCU really needs.

2: Kenneth Branagh

While he may be iconic as an actor for portraying Gilderoy Lockhart inHarry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets,Kenneth Branagh has proved himself to be a master of filmmaking in the mystery, horror, and crime genre. Thus, with the chance to create a superhero film, we may be able to witness something unique with his creation style in the next Thor movie.

3: Patty Jenkins

What the MCU desperately needs right now is a commercial and critical success to gain the momentum it once had during the early days, and with Thor being their OG icon from the Avengers, he’s the best one to make that happen. Thus, Patty Jenkins, who created DCEU’s smashing hitWonder Woman, might not be too far of a bet for Marvel Studios to achieve its former glory.

4: Ridley Scott

Everyone knows the sheer filmmaking genius of director Ridley Scott, especially within the fantasy and science fiction genres of films. And since most of the movies, including the Thor series, naturally revolve around these categories, it’ll be exhilarating if Scott decides to work with Marvel Studios after theOur Flag Means Deathdirector’s exit.

5: Guillermo del Toro

Another fine example of a filmmaker with a knack for creating some of the most iconic fantasy films in cinema history, Mexican director Guillermo del Toro would absolutely fit in with Thor’s slightly comedic and mostly aloof, yet at the same time, serious character. Thus, he may be able to correct the mistakes that Waititi made.

6: Jordan Peele

With the recent Thor films becoming an outlet for silly spoofs and comedic punchlines, more fans agree that the series taking something of a more serious or raw approach may come in handy. However, Jordan Peele, with his recent directorial titledNopeproved that he can combine all of the aforementioned traits along with giving the upcoming Thor 5 a mysterious and scary twist.

7: Denis Villeneuve

If Marvel Studios is trying to get back again in the good books of its fandom, then making the upcoming Thor 5 a grand experience may also do wonders for not just the film, but the cinematic juggernaut as well. And one of the most prominent names among filmmakers with the caliber of making films like those is Denis Villeneuve, who proved it with the release ofDune.

8: Ava DuVernay

While she may be known for her exceptional historical dramas, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Ava DuVernay is a master of her craft when it comes to telling a story with depth that others can seldom match. Thus, if the next film in the Thor series is to be a serious narration of the superhero’s life, the director would be the perfect match.
